Piskies (Sprites)

The piskies show signs of sapience, but whatever culture or language they may possess is so high speed as to be indecipherable. It's a rare moment when a person gets a glimpse of a motionless piskie, and so almost all reports of their habits are conflicted.

We know the barest sketch of the piskie life cycle. They rise from fresh water in the spring as will-o-wisps and immediately take to the sky. They eat almost anything. They seem impervious to age, injury or disease but they are attracted to fires. They hover around bonfires and forges and dive in and out of the flames, getting so hot that they are sometimes the cause of fires. Occasionally people see them disappear in the flames. The current hypothesis is that only an intense enough flame will transform them into their next stage- whatever that may be.
